Days 134-140

Day 134
I am just tickled with this shot because I have struggled so much with shooting yellow roses . . . I find it hard to get definition on individual petals but this one turned out nicely.

Day 135
"Are you sure this is not tuna day?"
Zack and Gracie think every day should be tuna day.

Day 136
Uprooted all of the tiger lilies from the beds last fall and put them in pots to make way for the tulips, and other spring bulbs.  As you can see they are thriving in their new location.

Day 137
This is the view from my window while seated at my computer desk.  I have had to pull the sheers over and hook them out of the way as Gracie has taken to reaching up really high with her front paws and swinging like a Cirque de Soleil artist.  Now I get to enjoy the flowers from inside and my curtains are safe from kitty claws.

Day 138
This basket of tomatoes on the vine will soon be turned into stewed tomatoes.  I like to keep a few tubs of them in the freezer to throw in my soups.

Day 139
The girls and I had quite the adventure trying to see this movie today.  We were all set up to see it at Guildford at 1:15 only to discover that showing was in 3D, which none of us enjoy.  We then went to Strawberry Hill only to find out that the 2 pm matinee didn't start until tomorrow and we would have to wait until 4:40 if we wanted to see it today.  So, very disappointed, we went to Starbucks and Chapters and soon were all cheery again.  By the time we were done at Chapters it was 4:00 and we decided dinner could wait . . . we would see the show.  This girl with the flaming locks (Merida) reminds me so much of my girl . . . Shannon's hair was big and long and all over the place, too and she has never been one to bow to tradition.  I love this photo because the reflection you see is Shannon and Merida's head is perfectly positioned at the top of Shannon's jacket.

Day 140
Garlic scapes . . . I had just discovered these curious curlicues atop my garlic plants and didn't know that they had their own name.  This morning, Amanda from Soule Mama blog had a post devoted to scapes and the ways you can serve them up.  I picked them and had one with my dinner.  Very cool!

Days 127-133

Day 127
Morning sun casts lovely shadows on the wall.

Day 128
Rain strings a beaded necklace on clematis vine.

Day 129
Just how fast is a snail's pace?

Day 130
Spirea in full blooming glory.

Day 131
Hanging basket at Evergreen Baptist Senior's Home . . . such happy colours.

Day 132
The girls and I visited Burnaby Village Museum and my favourite shop was the Chinese Herbalist establishment, Way Sang Yuen Wat Kee.
Here are a few of the bottled remedies that were on display.

Day 133
Gazania bud almost open.

Days 120-126

Day 120
Raindrops on roses . . . in black & white.

Day 121
One of three cats in our household . . . Chloe, the grand old dame with the emerald eyes.

Day 122
I found this snail on the rim of a cement and stone table.  Love the colours against the mix of pebbles.

Day 123
This crazy critter had me doing research to identify it.  Turns out it is a brachonid wasp and that long thing that looks like a needle is called an ovipositer by which it deposits its eggs in a favourable location.

Day 124
Love my feathered friends that come to visit.

Day 125
With the allium finished, the lavender is the newest attraction for the bees.

Day 126
My daughter's garage sale find . . . very cool!

June 8, 2012

Days 113-119

Day 113
Lovely rhododendrons shot while waiting for the light to turn green.

Day 114
Such a sweet chickadee  . . . perfect profile shot.

Day 115
Love the deep purple of this iris . . . it didn`t flower last year and I almost pulled it up.  So glad I gave it another chance.

Day 116
House sparrow takes a turn in the neighbours Scotch Pine tree.  It sits right up against the fence so I get a great view of all the birdies that stop to sit a spell.

Day 117
I cross a little bridge over the Serpentine River on the way to the senior`s home . . . it truly is serpentine in its meanderings through Surrey.

Day 118
The red peonies are opening up much quicker than the white and pink ones this year.
 So lovely.

Day 119
Zack and Gracie . . . ready to rumble as usual.  And they`re off . . .

Days 106-112

Day 106
Have so enjoyed the allium this year . . . and so is this "flitter critter".

Day 107
One of the rescue eagles at the Greater Vancouver Zoo.  Unable to fly it would not survive in the wild.

Day 108
Lacy fern fronds unfurling in the warm spring air.

Day 109
Gracie snuggling up in the laundry pile.

Day 110
Mama duck settled on her nest under a rhododendron bush.  She was discovered at the Evergreen Baptist Seniors Home where I visit with a lady.  The staff cordoned off the area and posted "Do Not Disturb" signs.

Day 111
Patchwork "twirly" skirt for my oldest grandgirly turning 10 next week.

Day 112
The first bloom on my Mother's Day rose from last year.  This is a highly fragrant, award winning hybrid and exhibition quality rose named "Elle".
